Chicago summer is at full throttle this weekend — the Taste of Chicago returns to Grant Park, the Windy City Smokeout brings the biggest names in country music and BBQ to the West Loop, the Chosen Few Picnic celebrates 36 years of house music history, and the suburbs have no shortage of their own magic. Here’s everything happening July 10–12.
Windy City Smokeout
Windy City Smokeout, Lettuce Entertain You’s annual music and BBQ festival, returns to the West Loop this weekend. The lineup features country music’s biggest names, including Lainey Wilson, Jordan Davis, Hootie & the Blowfish, Treaty Oak Revival, and more, along with an impressive roster of up-and-coming talent and more than 20 of the best pitmaster teams from across the country.
Taste of Chicago
Established in 1980, this uniquely Chicago summertime tradition returns with an impressive array of eateries showcasing the city’s culinary excellence and diversity. This year’s 46th edition features headlining performances by Common, Babyface, Beach Bunny, Julieta Venegas, and Original Koffee, plus a debut Chef’s Stage, a 112-foot Ferris wheel, live SummerDance programming, and more than 80 food vendors. Free admission.
Bucktown Garden Walk
The best Bucktown weekend of the year is jam-packed, with music throughout the gardens on both days, over 120 private gardens to explore, a Kid’s Fest on Saturday morning, a wine walk, and new this year — the first annual Fermented Frolic Garden Walk bar crawl! A beloved neighborhood tradition and a perfect summer stroll.
Southport Art Festival
Enjoy a perfect summer weekend at this beloved neighborhood festival featuring 100 artists, free admission, and the lively atmosphere of Southport Avenue. Browse exceptional artwork, enjoy food from local restaurants, and explore charming boutiques and theaters, while the Kids Art Zone, face painting, personalized poems, and other family-friendly activities offer fun for all ages.
Barrio Arts Festival
Hosted by the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture, the 26th Barrio Arts Fest celebrates and preserves the arts and culture of Puerto Rico through local artists, live music, food, workshops, exhibits, and much more. Now in its 26th year, what began with just 10 vendors in a parking lot has grown into one of Humboldt Park’s most vibrant community celebrations. Free admission.
Chosen Few Picnic & Festival
A full day of soulful celebration and house music history. Now in its 36th year, this iconic event — often dubbed the “Woodstock of House Music” — brings together thousands of music lovers from around the world for one unforgettable reunion. With deep roots in Chicago’s rich musical legacy, the festival is helmed by the legendary Chosen Few DJs, including Wayne Williams, Jesse Saunders, Terry Hunter, Alan King, and more, with special guest DJ Jazzy Jeff.
Wilmette Sidewalk Sale
Wilmette Sidewalk Sale returns to downtown Wilmette featuring your favorite local stores, plus local artisans, entertainment, and fun kids’ activities. The sidewalks are open for merchants and vendors to easily connect with shoppers while enjoying performances from Wilmette’s fine arts groups. Free to attend.
Day Out With Thomas
The Illinois Railway Museum’s Day Out With Thomas includes a train ride with Thomas, unlimited streetcar rides, live entertainment, museum exhibits, and family-friendly activities. This year also features Percy the small engine for an added adventure. Tickets sell out fast — book in advance.
Dinos After Dark
Throw on your coziest pajamas and explore the Zoo and see all the dinos after dark. This unforgettable nighttime event is filled with prehistoric encounters, animals, treats, and live entertainment — including a Dino Dance Party, T-Rex photo ops, fossil dig pit, Dinosaur Ranger Academy show, and Zoo Chats with your favorite animals. Adults $29.95 / Children $24.95 / Members receive discount.
LegionFest 2026
LegionFest 2026 takes place at American Legion Post 42 in Evanston, Illinois. This all-day community music festival runs from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM and features a packed lineup of Americana, bluegrass, and rock bands across 10 acts, headlined by blues rocker Louie Zagoras & Rollover. Kids under 18 are free. Bring your lawn chair or blanket. BBQ/sides served by Smoke Staff and Patio 42 Bar open all day. Tickets $20.
Garden Walk
Join the Roselle Park District Garden Club for a self-guided tour of six private gardens and one public garden throughout the community. Guests will be welcomed by representatives from the Roselle Park District Garden Club, with Master Gardeners available at select locations to answer questions and share insights. Free to attend.
Water Street Art Fair
The show is inviting local artists from the Chicago and suburban area to exhibit fine art and fine crafts in a variety of media including painting, drawing, sculpture, fiber, graphics, mixed media, jewelry, photography, pottery, metalwork, glass, wood, and digital art. A beautiful way to spend a Sunday afternoon in one of the North Shore’s most walkable downtowns. Free admission.
